Dominique, what exactly do you do at Weheat?

“I coordinate development of new heat pump technology. That may sound abstract, but in practice I ensure hardware engineers, firmware developers, test teams and production work together rather than at cross purposes. I bring structure to multidisciplinary projects, from planning through delivery to release. Weheat is growing quickly. That is exciting, but demanding. You must protect both quality and speed, which do not always align naturally. My role is to find that balance: helping teams work effectively in a hands-on, iterative environment without anything falling through the cracks. Scalable releases that are genuinely good. That is what I work on every day.”

What attracted you to Weheat?

“It is a technology company building something tangible: a product in people’s homes that changes how they use energy, rather than an app or dashboard. That interests me. Then there is Weheat’s growth: more than ten thousand installations, two hundred installation partners and a rapidly expanding team. Something is really happening here. Honestly, the culture mattered too. You do not wait to be told what to do. You pick things up, contribute ideas and quickly see results. That combination of mission and freedom to act immediately appealed to me.”

Your background is in data analysis, and you previously worked at TU/e. How does that translate into this role?

“Understanding technology helps, but my real strength is maintaining an overview without getting pulled too deeply into detail. At TU/e, I worked on varied technical projects. Data analysis taught me to create insights, recognise patterns and improve processes. That combination helps me see how hardware, firmware and production connect, and what goes wrong when those connections fail. I ask questions others sometimes skip: what is blocking this team, why does this handover keep stalling, how do we make this scalable at our growth rate? That thinking does not come from being the room’s greatest technical expert. It is a perspective developed through broad involvement.”

Weheat aims to be Europe’s best heating platform. Do you notice that in your daily work?

“Absolutely. We are not developing a heat pump that simply does what every other heat pump does. Weheat wants to understand what happens in a home at every moment. One hundred and twenty parameters, every five seconds. That is engineering, not a marketing story. As the R&D team, we must make it possible, release after release. The ambition also extends beyond the Netherlands. International growth is firmly on the agenda. Everything we build must scale beyond our own context. That raises the bar but gives direction. What you coordinate today will operate in a very different landscape in two years.”

Weheat is also opening a Utrecht office. Do you notice that growth from your position?

“For me, Utrecht signals that Weheat is entering its next phase. Eindhoven remains the engine, where we build, test and produce hardware. Utrecht shows we want to be closer to the market: customers, installers and partners. You feel that directly in R&D. We are no longer building only for the Dutch market. Our ambition is international, so our platform, products and ways of working must handle that. The pressure is tangible, in a good way. That is one attraction of this phase: you are not one among thousands. What you do shapes what exists in two years.”

Finally, who would enjoy working at Weheat?

“People energised by complexity who also want to bring structure to it. People who do not wait for instructions and enjoy seeing their work lead somewhere by the end of the day. It is not for everyone. But if you always want to understand how things work and preferably help improve them, you belong here. The combination of technology, mission and room to contribute to something bigger is rare. I notice that every day.”
