That is why Weheat is collaborating with ATA Mute, a spin-off from Eindhoven University of Technology, on the European innovation project SilentHeat. In this project, we are researching new technologies to make heat pumps even quieter.

It is important to emphasize that Weheat heat pumps are already among the quietest systems on the market today. Nevertheless, we believe that innovation never stops. SilentHeat is therefore a research project that explores how future generations of heat pumps can be further optimized.

SilentHeat in brief

The core of the project is an innovative technology from ATA Mute: a patented principle for Anechoic Broadband Compact silencers (ABC silencers).

This compact silencer consists of multiple layers of perforated plates with air channels in between. The construction ensures that sound waves are effectively absorbed without compromising the heat pump's airflow. Within the SilentHeat project, Weheat and ATA Mute are investigating how this technique can be applied to heat pumps.

One of the concepts currently being tested is a so-called compressor jacket: a sound-dampening sleeve around the compressor. This could potentially lower the noise level even further. A few decibels less might sound small, but the effect can be significant. For example, a 10 dB reduction is perceived as halving the noise.

More flexibility in placement

Heat pumps must comply with clear noise standards, for example regarding property boundaries. In practice, current Weheat systems are already suitable for installation in most situations.

Additional noise reduction could help in the future to further expand placement options, for example in densely populated residential areas. In this way, SilentHeat contributes to a wider adoption of heat pumps without compromising on comfort.

Research in progress

SilentHeat is currently in the research and testing phase. Initial results are promising and provide valuable insights for future product development.

As with any innovation project, extensive testing is conducted before new technologies potentially make their way to the market.
