The end of net metering

Net metering ends, but your solar power remains valuable if used at the right time. Making the most of solar power

The end of net metering raises questions: how do I keep solar panels profitable? Should I turn them off? A Weheat heat pump can make optimum use of your solar generation. Thanks to smart Weheat Intelligence software it can do much more than bring your home to a set temperature.

• We charge your building’s thermal mass: floors and walls absorb heat or coolness and release it gradually later. Your home can store  10–40 kWh in floors and walls, which gently release warmth in the evening.
• If you have a hot water cylinder for domestic hot water, we preheat it during cheap electricity hours, using your solar generation. Our smallest 200-litre cylinder provides around ~8–12 kWh  of hot water prepared during cheap hours, ready for a relaxing hot shower in the evening.

During expensive peak hours, your home is already prepared, with heat or coolness stored in the building and tanks. Comfort stays consistent and bills stay low. Best of all, you do nothing. Weheat Intelligence handles the calculations and runs the heat pump at the right times.

Your heat pump still works whenever you need hot water outside those planned times. Hot water boost, activated in the app, helps with unexpected demand, such as a weekend with lots of guests.

Using a heat pump intelligently after net metering ends

Weheat Intelligence is actively being developed, with the first features launching in 2026. We start with an initial set and expand it over time. Ultimately, the software combines sensors, models, tariffs and smart planning to maximise your savings:

• Measure – we read flow and return temperatures, flow rates, cylinder and outdoor sensors, and room or floor sensors where available.
• Learn – the system determines your thermal inertia (how quickly your home warms or cools) and heat loss (where and how quickly heat escapes).
• Look ahead – Weheat Intelligence checks the weather forecast, knows your routines for showers, washing-up and cooking, and schedules heating intelligently.
• Control – preheat during cheap hours and deliver during expensive ones. In future, Weheat Intelligence can also account for hourly rates under a dynamic energy contract.
• Safety checks – fixed limits protect room and floor temperatures, quiet periods and hot water safety, including legionella cycles.

The result? Comfortable, stable warmth, a hot shower whenever needed and low energy bills. Fully automatic, with no hassle or worries about the end of net metering.
