Going gas-free is the best approach to energy poverty

The choice of heat pumps is well founded. TNO research shows that more households risk energy poverty, with social housing residents often among the hardest hit.

TNO stresses that renovation and sustainability improvements are key to addressing this structurally. Heat pumps play an important role: combined with good insulation, they significantly lower bills, improve comfort and reduce fossil-fuel dependence.

Social housing renovation programmes therefore reduce energy poverty while accelerating the energy transition.
